THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI, 1920 silent (premiere of film score by DONALD SOSIN)
October 20 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm| $15
Love Halloween? Then don’t miss the premiere of a new film score for one of the best horror films of all time! Considered a classic, this iconic German film had a major influence on American films, particularly in the genres of horror and film noir, introducing techniques such as the twist ending and the unreliable narrator unto the language of narrative film. With more than one thousand film scores written and hundreds recorded, Donald Sosin is one of today’s leading silent film composers. He is the resident pianist for the Film Society of Lincoln Center, BAM and the Museum of Moving Image.
Bringing the music to life for this silent film are the Society All-Stars with guests Joanna Seaton, the Colgate University Chamber Singers, and the composer on laptop & keyboards. This annual collaboration with the Syracuse International FilmFest, LeMoyne College and Society for New Music has become a highlight of the fall season in Central New York. Each year the score and instrumentation are different, but this is the first time a chamber chorus will be included in the performing forces.
