It’s hard to believe that it’s only been three years since Veteran was released and knocked us for six. But it has and JPEGMAFIA is back with LP! and it’s a winner.
You should be aware that there are two versions of this record. The first was released to all the online streaming services.
The second, and most authentic, is called the “offline” version but somewhat ironically, it’s only available to buy on Bandcamp and can also be heard on YouTube and SoundCloud.
The two versions are not so different that you’re going to be sad to have heard one and not the other.
Things kick off with Trust! which was the first single on the album and it’s a lot of fun with a big instrumental focus.
Dirty! really reminds us of Veteran and it’s nice to see that Peggy is still very much in touch with his musical roots.
From there on in it’s a wild roller coaster ride of sonic assaults with the drumming really standing out in the mix.
By the time it closes with Bald! (which you’ve probably already heard), you’ll be breathing hard and feel totally wrapped up in the sound.
You can’t go wrong with LP! if abrasive, experimental hip-hop’s your bread and butter.

The first time Nicholas went to a live gig, 31 years ago, it turned out to be an Iron Maiden secret gig and he became hooked on the music scene. He was one of the founding writers for Astro Zombie a heavy metal and new world techno-inspired zine and his interview with Rob Caggiano of Anthrax brought in over 300,000 readers. He’s based out of Southeast Asia now, but his love of music is as strong and diverse as ever.
