A Momentary Lapse Of Reason by Pink Floyd

Remixed & Updated (Reissue)

Pink Floyd fans that weren’t willing to shell out a small fortune on The Later Years Box Set which came out in 2019, will be pleased to learn that the remixed and updated version of A Momentary Lapse of Reason has been released separately, or will they?

The album was the first recorded without the presence of Roger Waters and many assumed that Pink Floyd were over at this point, Gilmour set out to prove them wrong.

Unfortunately, that isn’t what happened and on its release A Momentary Lapse of Reason was greeted with mixed reviews and the accusation that it was, basically, just a Gilmour solo album.

This reissue is meant to address that with significant tweaks to the drum sound and new keyboard lines from Rick Wright.

The trouble is that when you can hear these changes such as on Signs of Life and Yet Another Movie, by and large, they don’t sound like improvements.

Gilmour may have set out to rectify the fact that this didn’t sound like 1970s Pink Floyd, but that’s not what was achieved.

Does this make this reissue a bad album? No, it makes it pretty much the same album as it was when it was first released and that’s really not a bad thing.

It may not stand up alongside Dark Side or even Meddle but it’s still Pink Floyd and it’s still very good.
